Frequently asked questions
What sort of art does Full Gamut sell?
Full Gamut Gallery (maintained by Full Gamut Pty. Ltd) sells printed artwork. We do not sell 3D objects. Most commonly the work is photography, painting and illustraton.
Photographs might be printed from digital camera files or images scanned from film.
Illustrations may be digital originals that are sent to us electronically or that we have reproduced from 2D originals.
Paintings are typically reproductions of work that we have made for our artist clients
Does Full Gamut sell or exhibit orignal artwork?
No. The aim of Full Gamut Gallery is to assist artists in making further income from their original artworks by making high quality, high resolution digital reproductions and then making prints that can be sold ongoing.
The artist can sell their original and still have income from that same piece.
How do you make the repoductions and how big can the originals be?
We use a variety of methods to capture artworks depending on the original source material. Our preferred capture method uses amedium format 102Mp digital cameras.
Film - this is either scanned or copied using a high resolution camera system.
Prints - These can be scanned up to A4 or captured on our camera copy stand system.
Watercolour - Typically we photograph these works on paper in our studio under carefully controlled lighting conditions.
Oil and Acrylic - We use a polarised lighting system to control reflections from materials that are highly reflective.
We can handle original artworks from tiny up to 2.5m wide
Where are your prints produced?
All our prints are produced in our studio in Hobart, Tasmania. We are a locally based business who take great pride and care in every aspect of our production from printer calibration to paper choice and final output.
What print process do you use to make prints?
Our prints are produced on Epson professional large format printers. Inks used are the UltraChrome Pro archival pigment inkset with either 10 or 12 inks. Designed for maximum colour range and fade resistance. This is mong the longest lasting print systems available today.
This print type is sometimes refered to as Giclée printing. The term "giclée" is derived from the French word "gicleur," meaning "to spray," which refers to the process of tiny ink droplets being sprayed onto the printing surface. This process results in prints with exceptional color accuracy, detail, and longevity, making them a popular choice for fine art reproductions.
What materials do you print on?
We only use well established and internationally recognised brands in producing our prints.
Manufacturers we use include Canson Infinity, Hahnemühle Fine Art and Ilford Galerie.
Papers are chosen in collaboration with our artists. They are typically 300gsm (unless otherwise requested by the artist). We favour 100% cotton papers and cotton/poly blend canvas for maximum longevity.
Can my artwork be sold framed?
When we sell artworks on your behalf, we sell them as print only to the customer. This makes the transaction and the organisation of the sale far simpler. It also means postage is easier.
If the client wants the artwork framed, the Full Gamut framing team will handle the request and produce a high quality piece of finished art. This will be charged directly to the buyer as an additional service provided by Full Gamut.
When will the customer get their order?
Works are printed on demand and are usually printed within 24-48 hours of the order being received.
We will work quickly to ship the order as soon as possible. If the work they have ordered is a limited edition work to be signed by the artist, this may delay shipping until the artist can come to the studio.
Once the order has shipped, the customer will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location. Typical delivery times in Australia will be 4-7 days.
How much does shipping work?
Full Gamut will pack and ship the orders.
Shipping for orders over $75 is free within Australia
Express shipping is available at an extra cost to the customer.
If required to pay for shipping, it is calculated based on the location and the items in the order.
What is the return policy?
Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn’t the case and they are not 100% satisfied with the purchase, they can return it to us within 30 days for a full refund.
How is pricing set?
We work with our artists to set the pricing of the work being sold. It is best to keep your pricing consistent across outlets so if you are selling your work elsewhere let us know.
The artist sets the retail price. We will sell the work for that price.
What is the sale commission?
Many galleries take a commission of 40% or higher.
Our commission on sale is 30%. Since we will be making the prints for you we will also subtract the production cost.
The formula looks like this:
Sale Price - 30% commission - production = Artist payment.
For example if an A3 artwork sells for $120 it might be
$120 - $36 commission - $28.80 print production = $55.20
The amount you get back will vary with sale price and print size but we will help you work all this out.
How do I get paid?
If we agree to work with you, we will provide you with some forms to fill out. We will ask for you bank details and we will deposit the funds from any sales you make directly into your account. We process the sales and make artist payments monthly.
Can I supply my own prints?
No. As part of our quality assurance for our customers, we wish to control the output of the work and check it for colour accuracy before shipping.
Do you store my print files?
Yes. The most efficient way for us to supply to our customers is to have the images ready to print. We will work wth you to determine sizes that you wish to sell and determine if the quality is good enough for that size.
We will then keep print ready files for those sizes that can be printed and packed at short notice.
You can, of course, request your files to be removed from our server at any time.
Can I supply my own art reproduction files?
Yes, though we will vet them for quality. We wish to present the customer with the best possible print and for that we need the best posible file.
Digital files we accept are Tiff, JPEG, Photoshop, PDF, PNG, Illustrator EPS.
We do get requests to print artworks that have been photographed with a phone camera. We generally do not recommend this due to the compression that phones apply to image files that can compromise quality.
