about Vanessa Richardson - Wildlife Artist

Wildlife Artist Vanessa Richardson lives in Hobart with her 2 daughters. Vanessa Moved to the East Coast in 2001 where she continued working as a tour guide until the birth of her first child in 2008. Since then she has been devoting her time to her children and Art – and loving it. Now immersed in artistic pursuits, Vanessa is currently working from home.

Her work aims to stimulate conversation and raise public awareness for vulnerable species. It is the families creative space. While Vanessa’s painting occupies most of her studio time, she also makes rope baskets. Her daughters, Mikayla and Jessie, make fabric covered earrings and hair ties and Vanessa’s father, Vern, supplies some Tassie Timber products.

As an artist, she is proud to share the unique beauty and wildlife we are exposed to. Vanessa is a strong believer and advocate of ‘Arts for Conservation’. Many of her subjects are from rehabilitation or wildlife care facilities so as to highlight and raise awareness for the need for conservation of our most vulnerable native species and their habitats.
The development of the “Helping Hands” print series is one of my ongoing ‘Arts for Conservation’ projects. Helping hands is a limited series print created to help raise the profile of the Tasmanian Devil and Devil Facial Tumour Disease. From this project, Vanessa has donated over $5000 towards the Devil fund to date.

In December 2014, Vanessa was announced the winner of the Inaugural Tasmanian Wildlife Art Price with her Piece titled ‘Wedge-tailed Eagle Study.
In 2017, Vanessa was a finalist in the Holmes Art Prize for Realistic Bird Painters – Caloundra, QLD
In 2018, Vanessa was a finalist in the Bay of Fires Art Prize – St Helens, Tasmania.

The Majority of Vanessa’s work is now sold via commission and while wildlife is her chosen subject, she is a highly recommended pet portrait Artist.
Vanessa’s 15yr interpretive guiding experience has provided the perfect platform to interact with Tasmania’s diverse environment and experience some very unique wildlife encounters. “We live in one of the best natural wildlife sanctuaries in the world”.

Vanessa's work is hand signed - there may be a slight delay in supply as we print the artwork on demand & await the artist signature.

I was told by many people to use full gamut for the best quality prints and professional service. I can say they were all right, the expert advice made it easy to decide which paper and size and were happy to take the time to explain differences in various products. I can see myself using their services again in the future.

Frequently asked questions

Where are your prints produced?

All our prints are produced in our studio in Hobart, Tasmania. We are a locally based business who take great pride and care in every aspect of our production from printer calibration to paper choice and final output.

What print process do you use to make prints?

Our prints are produced on Epson professional large format printers. Inks used are the UltraChrome Pro archival pigment inkset with either 10 or 12 inks. Designed for maximum colour range and fade resistance. This is mong the longest lasting print systems available today.

This print type is sometimes refered to as Giclée printing. The term "giclée" is derived from the French word "gicleur," meaning "to spray," which refers to the process of tiny ink droplets being sprayed onto the printing surface. This process results in prints with exceptional color accuracy, detail, and longevity, making them a popular choice for fine art reproductions.

What materials do you print on?

We only use well established and internationally recognised brands in producing our prints.

Manufacturers we use include Canson Infinity, Hahnemühle Fine Art and Ilford Galerie.

Papers are chosen in collaboration with our artists. They are typically 300gsm (unless otherwise requested by the artist). We favour 100% cotton papers and cotton/poly blend canvas for maximum longevity.

Do you print for anyone or just your artists?

Yes, we are a fine art and production print company and welcome work from the general public, professionals and artists of all types. Visit the Full Gamut main website for our full services. fullgamut.com.au
